Zao is among six mountain peaks and has access via three cable cars. Its courses are well suited for beginners through to advanced skiers, catering for families with young children and professionals alike. One of the oldest and most respected resorts in Japan because of its history and traditional onsens. The therapeutic waters are a great place to soak weary muscles. Lastly, Juhyo (snow monsters), formed by fine snow and small pieces of ice that cling to the fir trees are a sight to behold. The result is a mountain covered in natural works of art. Ski around the monsters by day and then admire their beauty again as they are lit up by night

From Narita Airport
Passengers travelling from Narita Airport board the Narita Express to Tokyo Station. Travelling time approx. 1 hour.
By train and bus via Yamagata
Take the JR Yamagata Shinkansen from Tokyo to Yamagata operates hourly and travelling time approx. 150 minutes, then transfer via bus to Zao Onsen which operates hourly and travelling time approx. 40 minutes (cost 1,000 yen).
By train and bus via Sendai
Take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sendai, travelling time approx. 120 minutes, this service operates frequently, then transfer via bus to Zao Onsen. Travelling time approx. 100 minutes.(cost 1,600 yen) This Winter only bus service runs one round trip a day and advance reservations are required).
